Certainly a 150mi road trip is not on the list so please visit your friend with confidence
have any of you seen the glock torture tests?
the klx may very well be the "glock" of dualsports...

That's great, I have a Glock19 too! I did a couple 180 mile days from 2008 - 2010. Then I went to Death Valley in 2011, I did 544 in 3 and a half days, longest day 233. Then March 2012 Death Valley another 540 in three days longest day 223. Then the Owyhee Ride a few weeks back 640 in 3 days. Longest day 240. Coming home I did 100 miles of pinned 7000 rpm / 70 mph indicated (granted it wasn't fun). Mine does some surging every now and then but runs fine and impresses the KLR650's I ride with. Of course when I am pinned to keep it at highway speed they are quarter throttle 4000 rpm.

Get a good aftermarket seat and some decent tires after you wear out the POS stockers and go enjoy your ride. If you're doing mostly pavement, look at the Shinko 705's.. they're cheap, they're surprisingly good off-road, but handle VERY well on-road. I run these on my DR650 and get 6000 miles out of a rear tire on it. I would imagine on the smaller, less powerful KLX, it'd go 8000-10000 on a rear tire.

I'm coming up on 3000 miles on my KLX, so I guess I'm about ready to check the valves. I'm going to try to put it off a little longer til I do my 351 kit and do it at the same time. I'll do an oil change this weekend though, since I'm anticipating a 300+ mile day on Monday riding with a guy headed from Tahoe to Boise.
