The bike is tough as nails. Your %ss is definitely the weakest link. But I agree with Dan - the KLX seat is pretty comfy compared to a KTM EXC seat.

I have agree about the seat. I have a bony *** and after an hour or so of pavement it feels like I've been straddling a 2x4 all day. Also I get tossed around by the wind. You get used to it but it can wear you out. If I can I try to avoid roads where cars are going above 60mph. In my area they want to ride my butt and semi trucks make a lot of turbulence. Other than that, enjoy! Oh and keep in mind your fuel range. Pushing your bike on the side of a highway sucks.

Hats off to you ahnh666. That is crazy riding you did on this bike. I know the SF is much better suited with the tires on it but still you take a lot of wind and a beating from the seat.

I did 600 on my Ninja 500 last week but I was able to lean on my tank bag getting out of the wind and also getting the weight better distributed.

Although like the KLX so many hours on the road going so fast I had to do a total rebuild when I arrived. Lucky I know how since it says rebuild top end in 1k intervals!!!!!!

I have no problem doing 140 miles in a day on both pavement and dirt. Just starting to hurt back there after that many miles. YMMV Bring an extra butt with you, and you'll be fine...

blackettle, look into getting the Seat Concepts upgrade to the 2 x 4. 160$ investment. If I had to do it over again I'd send my seat to them to do install of the upgrade. If your backside can survive the summer send your seat in once your season is done. Installing the kit myself turned ok but I'm sure if I'd had them do it, it would have turned out better and have been worth the bit of extra coin.

Is this bike capable of making a short road trip of say 150 miles or so with out being destroyed and/or leaving me stranded?

It's probably doable.

This thread raises the question of what it actually would take to destroy the KLX. I am thinking:
-drop it from the roof of a 3 story building?
-change the vital fluids with sand?
-encase it in concrete?
Certainly a 150mi road trip is not on the list so please visit your friend with confidence
