Fuel ratio does have a large effect on exhaust heat. Too lean will make it hot as we know ,but also overly rich will too as you don't get complete combustion in the cylinder and the fuel continues to burn in the pipe.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but this info will help many like me that don't know.

Yes, My air injection system is still on the bike and working. I happened to look at it a few days after getting the bike, not knowing what it was. After removing this, will it change anything like jetting, etc.? Shouldn't, right..? So, I tried to make it easier for you guys to explain, and me to understand by posting these pictures. Looking at it, it seams to me like it's there to help burn off extra gasses for emissions control. Is that right?

So, What your saying is remove all this circled in red, and cap the hose nipple on 2nd pic, and plug the hose nipple in airbox, Correct...???

And Cap this hose nipple...?? (Making a Plate and gasket to cover this will be the right way, but for now, sealed cap will do.)

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all this help and info. I'm an old school 2-stroke mechanic, and kinda new to these street legal thumpers of today....LOL Always something new to learn....

Yep, you got it Bob. Plugs at the airbox, intake manifold, and engine head... So, if you couldn't easily find the info in here, perhaps a new thread is needed - with these images and some pics of the removal, and with a concise name, e.g. "Air Injection Removal" ....

Removal has no effect on jetting/carb setup or performance..

The injection system introduces air into the exhaust port (with temps still high enough for combustion) - this re-oxygenation creates a secondary burn.

Like I said, haven't gone through it yet. Pipe is lined with black soot. I have a friend with same bike, and his pipe glows red at night. Can't see it during the day, but that's freakin hot. So I'll pass this along to him too.

Thanks....

only bike ive had with header glowing at night was too lean after switching to larger engine and different carb
didnt really tune the jets yet at that point

all others I have dont turn red at all
