Thanks

I have a heat shield made by MOOSE racing.

Got a sweet deal on ebay. NOS Straight Section Heat Shield e-line series. for $40.

MOOSE racing also makes a power bomb heat shield. both are carbon fiber.

I have the stock exhaust, and it if wasn't such a hassle on return shipping, I would have paid the price to see if the power bomb heat shield fit the stock exhaust.

FMF that makes the aftermarket exhaust's also have a straight section heat shield.

I got one because I have a set of tourmaster nomex rain pants (heat shields on the side of the rain gear) and didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on rain gear to have the exhaust melt them.

I can post a picture.

I use the Pro Carbon heat shield & still looks okay after 3 years. Offers fairly good protection from burning skin or trousers.

Speaking of heat shields, my header seams way over hot. Much hotter than other thumpers I've owned. Bike is 2009 with Powerbomb header, and Powercore 4 muffler. Also jetted. Anyone ever put a heat gun on the pipe at the exhaust port to see what temp is reading?

Klxster 07-13-2015 12:07 AM

Bob, I looked at your web site, still I can't tell if you've removed the air injection system..
If not, then that is why your temps are so high.. If so, then you could be running a lean fuel curve.

Yeah, don't know. Bought the bike with mods already done and only had it a few weeks. Didn't really ride it yet other than test ride. How can I tell? My bike seams rich, very rich. Haven't done any plug readings yet, but when I start it in my shed, the fumes burn my eyes right away like an old junker car....lol. Bike starts without choke. This could just be pilot set rich. Like I said, haven't gone through it yet. Pipe is lined with black soot. I have a friend with same bike, and his pipe glows red at night. Can't see it during the day, but that's freakin hot. So I'll pass this along to him too.

Thanks....:)

Yer taking off the clean air system (Pair valve) & running richer will help reduce heat.

I've seen a few a cross sections of whats in the bulge of a power & megbombs. There seems to be a lot of extra metal bits inside which could hold & radiate way more heat than a stock skinned header pipe.
