Default Exhaust Heat-Shield?

How nec is the heat shield? Will my exhaust melt the fairing w/o it?

hmmm... ive never seen that before, im guessing it came with the pipe? i say rip it off and chuck it. my bike has no heat sheild like that, just some foil coated insulation up under the tail. there should be enough room for air to circulate under there. i never have any problems.

The shield is a stock kawi part that covers the stock muffler. I agree that it looks like a**. Any other opinions?

That is the ugliest POS heat shield ever. Toss IT! It's a shame that they want to hide works of art. With that shield it looks like a Work O Fart! LOL
