Note: Always use a pan for cleaning complicated things... that would include carbs!

Sounds stupid but - the shower (with the drain covered) is a "safe" environment to disassemble a carb - and not just for newbies.. Don't tell anyone, but that is where I always disassemble an unfamiliar carb the first time.. And guns..
