Default 97'' en500 ltd with oil in the airbox

I crashed my 500 about 2 years ago, and when my leg healed, fixed the broken shifter, handlebars, and footpeg and got back on. Only problem is that after i got it running again, i noticed it was seriously pouring oil mixed with gas out from behind the starter relay somewhere in my airbox. Took everything off and opened it up and sure enough, theres a puddle of oil mixed with gas in the airbox. SO, it starts fine and runs strong, but after about 10 minutes the airbox fills up to the point where the mixture overflows onto the left side of the exhaust and the chain. Theres a few air tubes that run to the box which are all dry, but theres a metal hose connecting the oil reservoir in the crankcase to the airbox that is covered in gross oil and im wondering if the oil is comming from there. But where is the gas getting into it? and how do i stop it?

Anyone else have this problem before? Ive been searching and searching for days but cant find anything other than possibly a failing oil pump.

first picture is where the mixture leaves the airbox onto the left side of my bike,
second is the opening for the oil breather in the airbox (suspect)
third is that breather tube running from the oil case in the rear of my crankcase running to the airbox above

Check the oil and see if there is any gas in it.
I had this problem after sitting for the winter.
It would blow oil/gas into the air box through the Vent from the crank.
Gas had run through the carb and filled the crank case.
Not a good thing.

See my post: "91 ZX600 Engine Trouble" in General Tech

Hope this helps, but then I hope this is not the problem, too.

Mike

Kinda sounds like this may be the issue. Welcome to KF
