Really? Well I haven't actually ridden the TrakMaster II, but based on looks it seems like a typical MX tire.

In the past when I've put on a new MX tire on my bike (the ole CR125), it just hooks up like it's on rails in the woods.
But the 606's gave me no such pleasure when I mounted them - sure they were an improvement to the 603 - but nowhere close to what I remember a true MX tire feeling like. I'm surprised the TrakMaster II doesn't have that feel - maybe it's just those soupy mud holes you like to play in..??

the characteristics that i loved about the TK's were the way i could power on slide with them in the dirt and spin em like mad but still maintain forward movement. they definitely gave alot of fun in the woods. the downside was the lack of milage i get out of em.
Exactly - the TM-II's will slip but never too abruptly. I've heard that when the 606's go, they go with little warning and put you on your back side rather quickly. I've not actually used one, though, but that's what I've heard. I have one to put on that I bought last year, and will eventually try it out. I'm going to put on my Bridgestone E660 first, though, when my TM-II wears out. I'm about 1/2 tread on it, and it's still hooking up well. But I don't mind a little rear wheel slip. Breaking the rear wheel loose is a good way to steer from the rear, so to speak. I just want it to be predictable and not too abrupt.

And yes, I was referring to off-road traction, not road. I never get aggressive on the road with knobbies. I value my skin too much. I'm pretty sure the 606 behaviour would be different in the desert vs eastern woods. I think the folks I heard complaining about it sliding out were folks back east. Good to hear some first hand experience, though.

I haven't used the 606 either but if it hooks up like the C858 I'd agree with the abrupt loss of traction. The C858 was "only" a 50/50 tire but it hooked up hard in the dirt, it would take more to break it loose than the TM or the AC-10 but once it let go, it was all over. The TM and AC-10 will let you slide it around and I've not had either of them totally lose grip like the C858 would. I'm actually debating on running real knobbies, as in not DOT approved as I can always swap my street tires on for inspections and longer road jaunts, but at the same time the TM is so cheap and works so well its hard to switch.

Insterting, it seems the Dunlop 606 is of choice. I was going to suggest the Kenda K270's. I've had them on for about 1,500miles and they are only a 1/4 worn. Street use is good, thou road noise can be loud. Off-road is also good, but lacks good traction in thick mud and sand. Everything else, they are great. I love blasting wide open with them on the grass flats.

I may switch to the 606. Thats if the K270's ever wear out.

I just installed the TM 2's on the rear the other day. I only have about 1 mile on it (road only) and it feels pretty good for such aggressive tire. Hopefully this weekend i will get some dirt time on it.[sm=smiley20.gif]

My TM2's seem to average 2k+ miles on my klx, rear tire only (never tried a TM2 on the front), I ride quite a bit of asphalt too in S FL and it rains here a lot.......it will slide on asphalt but is very predictable and does not just break loose......just starts to slide more and more..lol....good tire I Need to buy another. Best dot rear tire for sugar sand imho.
