I installed the kit last month so it's still somewhat fresh in my mind. If I'm reading the service manual correctly there are only four bolts that are torqued to 46Nm/34ft-lb, those two smaller (but long) ones are only 12Nm. Did you by chance torque them to 46Nm?

No. I used two different torque wrench's. I used the proper torque value. Just odd we both had the same issue and it was around the same time. I used JB weld to fix mine and was wondering if sphen came up with a better solution.

i coughed up the money for a new cylinder head. I had a machinist look at it and he said if I could get someone to TIG weld some material back in he could end mill it, but I wasnt ablet o find anyone i trust to do it.

For kicks I tried JB weld, but it wouldnt hold even the little bit of torque needed for those 2 side bolts. That head material seems soft to me - when i was installing one of the oil pipe banjo bolts on the new head, the threads pulled completely out and i had to helicoil it back (which in the end is stronger than the stock aluminum)

Hello All,
I've been working on thr problem with the oil control ring failing on a few bikes. The expander on the oil control ring has lost some of its tension
JE is changing the rings to eliminate the problem.

I've been waiting until winter to get a kit but now I'm going to have to wait to see what happens or what the reason for the faulty ring and what has been done to correct it.

this all turned into an expensive endevour for me - after the ring failure, I basically purchased a new 351 kit and head, then 8 months later wrecked the bike through no fault of my own....insurance doesn't pay for aftermarket upgrades :-(

totaled the bike and my left shoulder....

Should JE be liable for the faulty rings?
