Default STARTING PROBLEM

when i put the switch in start and hit the button i starts but sometimes when i press the button..it feels like it's gonna start, then i hear a loud metal sound and i have to press it again and it starts up. is that a sign of a bad starter or alternator? it sounds like it's comming from there.

I have had the same issue with a chevy suburban, The flywheel was missing a tooth, so when the starter got there, Clank and nothing....now that I think about it, I never fixed it, but it went away...odd. Anyway, not sure if that helps you, but thats all I can think of.
