Default starting problem - not really

hey guyz.. with my 2000 zx9r, i have to apply choke/chalk (sorry about the terminology) everytime i start the bike in the morning even though i ride it everyday... after the initial run, its fine.. meaning if i ride it again during the same day, the bike would start up right away without any chalking...

is something going bad? should i take any preventative measures? where should i start?

thanks

That is normal for my 2000' ZX9R also. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

let me ask one more question -

sometimes when i let go off the accelerator in 2nd or 3rd so that it just cruises along, it starts to sputter a little bit... any ideas? does not happen always, only sometimes.. n it happens at decent enough speeds too...

if it is running a little rich it will back fire or sputter on de-excel. If it is not back firing you are probably fine, mine makes a cool *** sound when I am off the throttle, no problem.

hey Notstock - i think it does back fire... it does not sound cool at all when i left off the throttle... on the other hand, it might be taking away from the whole "coolness"... u know what i mean ... u drive in somewhere like a champ and then as soon as you let off the throttle, it sounds like its going to stall and shut off...

btw... it's nice to know there are more of zx9'ers out there... [sm=yeahsmile.gif]

Mine dose not sound like it is going to stall, just some nice loud pops. If you jump right back on the throttle hard does it respond quickly and take off or is there a slight hesitation. Also if you are real rich there will be a lot of dark soot at the exhaust pipe exit, some is normal but thick build up is not.

btw do not have a zx9, but if i did I know I would be enjoying it just like my other bikes, it is one bad a$$ ride.
