valves ticking..is this good?
2003 b1h model: the ticking from my valves/tappets(whatever, im not mechanical) seem to be getting louder (17000 miles now) my local mech says not to worry but anybody else get this..it does sound quite like a swiss watch though!! cheers
Kawasaki's tend to have loud valvetrains, my 05 ZX6R sounds like a movie projector from the 40's. I have never heard of any problems with them, that is just the nature of the beast.
What kind of oil are you using (regular/synthetic - auto/motorcyle) and how often do you change it?

ninjaphoenix...
When I first joined the forums that was one of the first questions I asked and the response was overwhelming... Kawi's are loud... My 03 636 is one loud ***** but no problems whatsoever. Everyone told me to switch to synthetic oil and that will quiet it down a bit... I have Respol 10W40 being shipped to me within the week and next Mon or Tues I plan on switching.
They are loud because the motor is a high performance motor and it is a little on the thin side (weight savings) Try switching to synthetic oil see if that makes a difference.
To be honest with you I kind of enjoy the ticking sound, it makes the bike sound bad ***. I had some salesguy from a POS bike store ask me if I had cam/head work done because it sounded so loud and I was like yeah [8D]
So I wouldn't worry about it, I did, and just enjoy a sweet ride... Hope this helps... I'm sure more will pitch in with the same response...
