Here's the deal, I notice a ticking sound coming from what I believe is the fuel injectors on my '03 636. I saw a post on another forum and they though maybe it was the valves. Nonetheless, I am wondering if this sound was there when I first bought it and also before I changed the spark plugs, I cannot remember. Can anyone else verify that this is a normal noise to have or not. I realize while on the bike you are sitting right above the engine so some engine sounds may be more apparent. Obviously at idle it is a slower frequency ticking and then increases as RPMs do. So should I be hearing any fuel injector ticking at all, if in fact thats what it is?

 

i know bikes are different than cars, but i got a 01 vw jetta and the injectors tick pretty loud... but thats a hard q to ask bc theres a lot of things that can tick in a motor...

 

Hey I have or I should say had 03 636. The tickink is a normal thing. I was in the shop once a week. I was told it's do to the titainum valves and very light internals. So that was told by mechanic that has 25 years experince. Mine had 10,000 and ran like a brand new one. Anyways don,t let it bother you. Even though it's annoying is hell!

i am reading the haynes manual for an '02 636 and it says that every 8000 miles (12 000km's) that the valve clearances should be checked. that may quiet her down a bit for you.

 

Thanks all for your replies. Its not too bad at cruising speeds and I dont wanna wear plugs because I enjoy listening to the sound of the exhaust. At least now I know nothing is wrong with it.

 

What a coincidence! I was just going to post up about the same exact thing, only I was thinking it was coming from the valves. i should still check out the valve thing, though I am only at 6,000 miles. is it kinda like the sound of a pen tapping on something only a little more faint?

 

Actually riding with earplugs are good cause the one thing you hear the most is the exhaust!! Try it, you'll see what I mean.
