Default Need a good switched hot.

Hi this is my first post so be gentle!

I'm hooking up an accessory gauge to my 06 Ninja 500. Well its not so much a accessory gauge as it is a clock. Anyways. I am taking my constant hot straight off the battery (unless someone knows a better one?) I need a switched hot for the gauge. Anyone have a wiring diagram laying around?

You need to find your ignition, 12 volts when you turn on your key. I have no diagram but its easy if you have a multi meter.

The clock takes both. A constant hot so it will keep the time, and a switched hot that will make the display and back lighting come on.

I'm taking the constant hot direct from the battery and I was really hoping someone would have a wiring schematic so I didn't have to hunt for a witched hot.

That makes sense now to me, lol
No schematic here either. Use your test light.

Welcome to the forums...

I can't help you on a schematic either..... But wouldn't a battery operated $10 clock be easier?

Its more then just a clock but calling it a clock its the easyest way to think about it.

Think about it this way. When you shut off your car your stereo doesn't lose its pre-set stations and the clock doesnt reset its self but you cant turn on the radio with out the key.

The switched hot is the key on/off and the constant hot is what retains the pre-sets stations and clock keeps the clock from resetting its self.

The switched hot is what lets you actively turn the radio on/off.

Did that explain it?

A switched hot would be the head light wire for the low beam, but you would loose that on high beam so how about the running lights on the front indicators.
