Question Should I believe the dealer's hype?!

Hi All,

I'm planning on purchasing my first bike ever (yeah!), a 2009 250R. I live in Montreal and called a local dealer today asking him about the availability of the bike for 2009.

As this will be my first purchase ever I wanted to get your opinion on what was told to me. The dealer said that If I wanted a 250R for next summer, I would have to place my order NOW so that it can be delivered some time in winter! Otherwise, he said I would not be able to get any.

Now, I find this hard to believe, I know that the bike is sold out for 2008 but I would quite frankly hate having to make my purchase now + having to pay to have it stored since it will be delivered in the middle of winter.

So, should I believe the hype, or can I afford to wait until February or March?

Thanks

I wouldn't believe that. I bought my 2008 Ninja 250R on February 4, 2008. I told the dealership that I would buy it as soon as it came in IF it was GREEN. Since I had bought a 2001 ZRX1200R from them in 2002, they believed me...and I got the first one delivered. And I got it for $4,026 OTD.

I think it depends where you live. The more demand in the area, the dealers are basically making up their own rules as they go. This is probably why Kawasaki jacked the price of the 09 $500, cause some dealers were getting more than that. I live in NY, and a few dealers near me were jacking up prices, but I found one really good one. I put my deposit down as soon as i heard the words " we sell it for the MSRP".

MSRP for '08 was $3499, so is it now $3999?

Well, it's still worth the increase. I'm having a blast on my '08 Ninja 250R.

I just picked up my 09 yesterday. This is my first bike and i was having an amazing time on it. I'm pretty happy with the choice. I was getting antsy a couple days before the dealer called, telling me it was in, and almost went to Honda. So when I went to honda, it was closed, next morning the kawi dealer called. The ninja was meant to be mine. I'll post pics.
