The interceptor for free? You have an extra engine and the tools to put her together? Or the tools to rebuild the current engine? They are fun rides as well.
Your girlfriends dad knows your capabilities prolly more than what we know. Just know your comfort and control level. Good luck.

yes, the interceptor for free. It nothing pretty to look at. its a late 80's early 90's model. I have some tools, but nothing specialized for bikes. Besides a motorcycle jack, what special tools would i need? i have sockets and box wrenches. Plus my GF's dad has tools. He's been working and riding on bikes for 30 years.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I really appreciate the help and advice given here. This is a pretty cool forum.

if i were to get a chance to buy a 600cc bike for the cost of a 250, buy it and learn on it. He basically said, i control how fast i want to go. If i dont want to go fast, dont give it to much throttle.
True you can deffinately control your speed, controling the power tho might be more difficult since the bigger bikes are usually more touchy.(Compare the throttle in your RX7 to a stock civic, lol)But it is definately doable to learn on a 600+ bike with the proper midset. The biggest problem with buying a 600+ bike as a new rider is that youhave a pretty good chance of dropping your first one and replacing those plastics will cost ya. But like he said if you could find one for the same price and in good condition, why not?

The Interceptor sounds like a good deal to me. At least you will learn something

No special tools needed if just swapping engines. Besides the rear and front stands or the tie down strap to rafter method. I am still liking the interceptor idea for free.

my first sport bike was a '90 Interceptor. I tell you what, it was a great bike. Wasn't that fast, but it was a lot of fun. I miss the hell out of mine. It has a much more upright riding position than modern sportbikes. You can still lean pretty far with it. That's the route I would take, and when you get tired of it, you can buy a ZZR600 so you can be one of the cool kids.
