Default WTF - Won't Idle

Alright to begin with I let my bike sit for six months which in itself is an offense punishable by flogging especially since I live in the land of sun, sand and ...

So the bike wouldn't fire up, well kinda... it would fire up for about three seconds and die. Anyhow, drained the fuel tank, took the carb off which I don't mind except putting it back in is always a beeeatch. Looked like the main jet was plugged so I cleaned the whole bottom half of the carb out and also removed and cleaned the other jet, put in a new NGK plug (got rid of the Iridium) - put it back together, fired it up and it ran smooth for about a day. Now it will only idle at 2000 rpm or it dies - any clues out there?

Did you check your air filter? I've seen really dirty air filters stall out motors at low RPMs.

Check your idle jet again. It's probably is plugged again. I usually just replace them if they get gunked up that hole is really small. Make sure to throughly clean the float bowl.

Well well....look who finally decided to show back up... I'm no expert by any means, but you gotta pull the carb again, check every space in there especially the bottom of the bowl. then the jets, and you should be good to go. Nice to hear from you again man.

Well felt I was due for my annual visit Deej! Also bought a used BMW G650 X Country which I'm sorry to say makes the KLX collecting cobwebs (lots of black widows on it).

As for the air filter - I had cleaned it, the bowl and jets were totally blasted with carb cleaner but I'll pull it again and hose the sucker down - the KLX is a lot easier to work on than the Beem'r.

Long time no see, Mark. Like already suggested, I'd say do it again ... pull the carb and clean again. That fixed it the first time, probably got clogged again by something you missed the first time around. Maybe tear the carb down and let it soak in cleaner overnight, then blast out all the little passages with carb cleaner and give all the jets another go over.

No worries about this stuff with your "X" which is fuel injected, how nice is that?
