What I/you did today on the bike
Maintenance.
I washed a pound of dirt out of my air filter! OK, not a pound, but it's been really dry and the trails have been so dusty I've developed a dry hack from breathing in dust, not to mention the bike was running a little off.
Fortunately the engine side of the airbox was nice and clean.
Also assessing the wiring since I had the main fuse blow on the trail last weekend. Replaced it and blew it immediately. Checked all the harness plugs on the trail, removed the only accessory wiring and reconnected the battery and everything seemed fine after that.
All I can figure is that the switch wiring got damaged. I removed the aux lighting circuit and tested it with an ohm meter and got some weird readings. I'm going to rebuild that harness and reinstall and see what happens. I also need to get a new pack of 20A fuses.
That was the day after pretzelling my shift lever on a hidden stump(exactly why I hate riding through tall grass) at the top of a mountain. Being on a mountain, there were many large rocks to wedge the lever in and bend it back.
The real problem was the lever stripped and would spin on the undamaged shaft. My buddy sacrificed the foil paper from his cigarette pack and I wound that onto the shaft, then jammed the lever on and tightened it up. Just the ticket to get out of the mountains and back to the garage, it actually felt like a new lever, we just didn't know how long it would hold up.
Luckily I had an ill fitting IMS lever in reserve. A quick clamp in the vise got it bent out far enough to miss the engine case and on it went. It's shorter than the stocker and I don't like it...I'm going to order the stock one. It should last the life of the bike at this point.
