Default Rim Locks

Well I hade my first flat yesterday.[&o] Was bout 10 miles from home and was able to limp her back, a little sideways butt made if home w/o the tire coming un-glued. I went over the tire with a fine toothe comb more than once and cannot find a puncture, soIput a air hose toti it and was blowing from the stem area big time.I am guessing I spun the tire spun and ripped the stem, but did not take the tire off yet.
I have read a bunch of opions on the thread intitledNEW TIRES& 13th Two thumbs up! and many have still spun the tire on the rim with a rim lock. I used rim locks on my MX bikes as the came with them but never really ran low pressure.
I do know that I had not checked mytire pressure for some time (my bad) so i'm figuring it was because of low pressure.
So the big question is,
If I run the recomend higher tire pressure, do I really need a rim lock? Or 2 rim locks to avoid balancing? I mean I ran the bike for 2 years w/o an issue until the tire pressure got really low, the i spun it.
Also i'd would do what mavekus stated as to leaving the stem loose. very good point, I think that is key element.
Thanks
Don

I thought I recognized the name! My dirt wheels came with 1 rimlock each so I will be using them. However on my other wheels I've not run a rimlock and have the pressure around 15 psi for both the Michelin AC-10 and the Trakmaster 2. Even with locking up the TM2 and wheelieing on the street at 15 psi I didn't have a problem with the tire slipping. If you've mounted the Kenda yourself, you'll see why I wasn't concerned with running 15 psi.

Get them, no sense in not doing it.

They're cheap insurance, and it's easy to re balance the wheel.

Btw, i'm running one in each tire, and haven't noticed any wobble so far whilst on the road. Lowest pressure i've run, on the stock tubes, is about 10-11 psi, without a single tear

No

Running 2 locks is a pain in the backside when you want to change tyres, if you never change tyres go for it, also if you never go above 50 mph you wont need 2

Same thing happened to me

Since I have left the nut loose on the valve I have not ripped a valve stem, before that I did 2, one without a rimlock, 1 with the rimlock. A guy I ride with (very very experianced rider) told me to leave it loose
