Here, too. You can't take in a Ford Mustang and claim you paid Ford Pinto money for it. You can be reasonably lower than actual value, but not ludacris like $1.

IE: My mom bought my current car (99 Accord) and I paid her for it, but its in her name. So to get it in my name we have to have bill of sale to me, etc. We won't claim that I paid what I paid for it, but in Louisiana you can't just make up a BS price to dodge taxes.

Yes they do it in PA too. Did it when I bought my KLX and they did it when we sold my Harley.

And to WestOZ, they scratch the numbers off so when you report it stolen you can't identify it as being the stolen machine. It takes away your proof. It's a pretty common thing.
