Default oil in new SF

I've got about 40 miles on my 09 klx250sf, I want to change the oil and filter what oil should one us during break in? Seems like my local shop only stock synthetic so I'll have to pick something up on my next trip out of town (I live in podunk, nebraska)

If you have 40 miles, the bike is already broken in

Just change it with whatever you want.

I waited till I had like 1000 miles on the bike before going with synthetic.....not sure why, there are arguments both ways. Change oil again at 200 then 500 then every 2000

You really don't need to spend the $$$ on the synthetic stuff. This motor is built like a tank, any dino oil will do. I go to autozone and get the $3.99/qt 10w40 motorcycle oil.. I think it's Amsoil. I used to get the $9.00 Mobil 1 - but it's just a waste of money.

holy crap it drives me nuts when people change there oil so quick! i changed mine at 7 or 800 like they recomend and then every 1500-2500 miles after, synthetic is a waste of money in a bike with a low performance motor.. i might change to synthetic when i do the 351 kit

Actually most of the friction wear on a small motor like ours happens in less than 100 miles, and if you do the hard break in then you especially need to get that oil with the metal particles back out of the bike. That's common knowledge. It might seem like a wast of money, but compared the the 12 quarts my truck holds, it's pretty cheap.

I changed the stock stuff out at 20kms and replaced it with motul 1000 the mineral stuff.

At least I know the breakin period is done with decent oil!
