I have a 03' zx6r 636 and it has just over 11,000 miles on it. Well about 3 weeks ago one of my neighbors knocked over my bike in the garage and when i started it up, the oil pressure light came on and stayed for longer than i liked (prob 10 sec.) so i turned it off, let it sit for about a minute and turned it on again, the light went off after about 10 sec.

Well today i went and changed the air filter and the oil and filter and when i went to crank it on...the light came on again. I have been doing my own changes from day one except for the big services... anywho, this wasnt like the rest of the changes where the light is on for a second or two then blinks off when pressure is built, it stays on and the engine sounds louder and clanky. I havent run it for more than 20 seconds and dont want to inflict damage...

Im wondering if it has something to do with the fact that when the bike was dropped it took some time for the oil light to turn off, did something get damaged internally with the drop (wouldnt think so, just fell off the kick stand) but this is the first time i have done the oil service since the falling over and both i have had some speculation with the oil system. Is there anyone else with this experiance? is it a bubble in the oil system, did my pump take a sh*t? its going to the dealer if i cant figure it out soon, anyone with some advise or experiance with this please chime in. Sorry for the novel, and thanks in advance!

Someone here had that same prob not real long ago... I can not remember who it was, but it ended up being an air bubble... Open your fill tube, then take out the drain plug and drain a little oil out. That fixed the problem...Let me see if I can find that previous post for ya...

Alrighty, well i found out what my problem was. The kid at the local motorcycle shop had supplied me with the wrong oil filter. He gave me an XXXX-0004 and i needed the XXXX-0002. There is a "one-way" diaphram in the oil-filter and its not interchangable between the two filters and or the two bike models. He looked up the oil filter for a zx-6, after i had repeatidly told him it was a zx-6r. because they are much different bikes parts wise. and BigRig, thanks for the response, that is good to know for the next time the bike goes down. which hopefully WILL NOT be soon!
