It's a good thing this isn't a KTM RFS forum...those engines have two oil filters, and they're different sizes.

hey
the black rubber bit faces away from the motor.
Your filter should look like the one in the picture it doesnt matter what brand just go to their site and search on their web site. heres a link to the k and n one K&N Products by Vehicle Search - Year, Make, Model, Engine Search
and just put in your bike model and make and it tells you the part number go to the shop and buy it. simple
and with the spring which is a bastard to put in grease works or bend out the first wind of the spring so it kind of wedges in the spring stays. this works great and is a permanent fix.
hope this helps

I have started using a balled up wad of paper towels as my filter. Works well and pretty inexpensive.
And old sock or pile of dryer lint from the garbage can works okay too.

I keep wondering, though, what oil is best for this bike??

Re-assembly after oil change:
Step 1 - Stick the oil filter on the cover. It only fits one way. If it falls off, try the other way.
Step 2 - Put it all back together the way you found it.

So easy a KLX250 owner could do it.

I've been doing a 2 stroke mix in my bike.. Don't even fill up the oil sump anymore - I just pre-mix.

I chained my filter once, but it still got away.

Oil change and filter at 3000 miles on all my bikes.
