nothing like bringing full circle...but it may answer the question in post 98 by TNC.

I've heard horror stories about this filter being installed backwards in 4 wheelers, I'm sure it would be the same on bikes. Does the spring loaded hole provide a relief for that or some other problem in your oiling system?

If you don't change your oil and it turns to sludge and plugs up the oil filter thats a bypass so the motor will still get oil, well it wouldn't be oil at that point...

Sorry, if someone said to me the hole goes to the outside, even if i couldn't figure out which way the filter went, i couldn't see how someone could say that looking at each end that it has a hole in both ends.
