I lost track if it was resolved yet, but 'hole' opposite the 'real hole' is indeed a filter bypass. It's spring loaded and pushes in to allow oil to keep flowing if the filter is plugged.

Hell yes I'm right. Are you questioning my vast knowledge and experience? I've been doing this kind of work for at least 5 minutes, so bugger off!!
