Default Moto-Pro experience

I ordered a supermoto suspension 'system' from Moto-pro today and just thought I'd pass along a very positive experience.

It took me a couple of tries because their phone kept pretty busy, but once I got through I couldn't believe how helpful John (owner) was.

I'm a noob when it comes to suspension and valving, but John went to great lengths to make sure all of my questions were answered and to ensure I ordered what was best for the way I ride.

I learned that supermoto fork spring rates are typically several notches firmer than what would be used for moto-cross and valving in both the shock and forks are about 4 levels firmer. The spring rate for the shock is the same as moto-cross.

We settled on .44 for the fork springs and lowered the shock spring rate to 5.6 from the stock 5.8 for my light-in-the-azz 150lb rider weight. He is sending shims that will slow the shock's rebound by 20% and said the same thing can be accompished in the forks by going with 10WT fluid.

This setup is much more appealing then what I could have bought for the same price in Japan. Over here, they just offer front and rear springs that make the bike ride like a brick...with a 'one size fits all' approach that doesn't take rider weight into account.

The most amazing part is that John was willing to talk about suspension all day, but it seemed he would never get around to the price and how to pay, so I finally breached the subject because it was time for me to go to work!

It's wonderful that there are still businesses like this around. What a rare experience.

I too had a good experience with John. I'm glad you posted as I'm going to change my dirt setup to motard setup like you. Sorry to copy.lol
Let me know how the difference is.

No prob! It should take about 10 days for the parts to arrive and inside of a week to get the stuff installed.

This is one review I'm really gonna enjoy doing!

Did you get the parts in, or did they get missent to APO who know's where? I have had that happen a few times, and it was lost for a month. I am about to call John to get some front springs, as my bike loves to dive when on the front brake. Hope to hear good things about your test ride, when you get them installed.

Got everything in 10 days... right on schedule. I'm going to take my time with this, because it looks pretty involved. I'll need to explain the shim stacking and free bleed plug drilling to the dealer, because the instructions are in English.

There are still some questions that I need to clear-up with John as well. I took a vernier caliper to all of the shims in the fork kit today and will measure the shock shims tommorrow. As soon as I feel properly prepared, I'll take the parts and bike into the dealer.

Definitely want to get this right the first time.
