KLX 300 cylinder head on a 250s
#11
Even though it sounds amazing, the top ends usually die so far in advance of the bottom end in an oil starvation situation that the bottom ends are seldom injured. In an odd way that can be a good thing. Replacing a head and cams is cheaper than the whole engine. Still, it's a good idea to keep oil in the engine.

Same thing for me - top end cooked but bottom was fine.
It was a commuter bike (long freeway run) and burned enough oil that the cams seized in the head. Bottom end checked out just fine.
I ended up springing for a new head. Congrats on finding a cheaper way to go! Use all that money you saved to go 351.

only costed me ~$400 for new head/cams/valves.

For anyone wondering - the 300 cylinder head works perfectly with the rest of the 250s engine. Got her installed earlier this week, fired up first kick. Been riding her steady for these past couple days (commuting between work/school and around town) and she runs better than ever.
now its time to get a 351 kit and some supermoto wheels on this bad girl!
