when my head died on my 99 klx 250 i used a 99 klx 300 head. only diffence was my old head was australian spec and the new one was usa spec.
one thing to note
on the 99 the 300 and 250 engines are the same just the bore.
im 99% sure its the same.
have a look at

and compare part number to make sure.

The cylinder for the 300 has the same bolt pattern & deck heighth as the 250 the only difference is the bore & the outside diameter of the cylinder where it goes into the block on the 300.
The head for the 300 has the same deck & bolt pattern as the 250. There are some of the older 250 heads don't have the fresh ait valve on th front of the head. They both use the same cams valves & valve guide seals ports are the same I have & 300 head that I have modified ported & larger valves to see how it will run. I will put it on my bike when I have time to install it.

if you fishin for more power, the 300 head isn't any better than your 250 head? in fact you may drop the compression a hair
If anything 300, I'd spend my money on a cylinder since your 09 head is probably has a lot of service left in it.
