Default KLX 300 Cylinder

What years klx 300 Sleeve's fit our 250? I noticed on ronayers they list 2 different ones. 1 for the 02-05... #11005-1983...And one for the 97' to 01' ....#11005-1816
But the same cylinder head for all years except 05'. #11008-1317..

I have read mostly that the 02-05 cylinder is what is being used for the big bore, but have read the older cylinder can be used also. And where they both use the same cylinder heads, can the older model cylinder bolt onto our motors?
Thanks!!

I think it was the older 250's that couldn't accept the 300 jug. Not that the 300 couldn't be used.

For those that have purchased a new 300 cylinder, what was the part number that you used.

There's no doubt in my mind that both will fit. The PN for everthing elses is the same(gaskets, alignment pins, piston, rings). They may havechangedthe material used for the 'electrofusion' lining or some other thing that has no bearing on fit.

The only problem you would run into with fit is if you had a 1997 or prior KLX250 where the case opening is too small.

+1 on going with the newer one though. You might want to visit the thumper talk KLX/KLR forum and ask them specifically what changed. There are some pretty knowledgeabledudes over there when it comes to the KLX300.
