Default Heat Shield Mod

I have the Muzzy System on and I am trying to decide what kind of heat shield to put on the head pipe. CWGOFF had used the original shield with hose clamps, although I have not seen close up picks of the way he set it up. That was back in Sept. And I also heard about heat tape wrap. Anyone have any suggestions as I am still running with the bare pipe.

Fishfinder,

Dirtsurfer made some improvements to the job that I did. Here is a link to his thread with lots of close up pics.

I tried exhaust wrap and can't really recommend it. I ended up taking it off.

With my Acerbis tank, I've been running with no exhaust shield for many months, and have never come close to touching the pipe.
The Acerbis is pretty wide - I'd really have to try hard to touch my leg on the pipe.

The only problem that I ever had was when I wore synthetic pants (like dress slack). I do that pretty often when riding since I use the bike to commute. Synthetic fibers melt quickly instead of heating up and then burning. I never had an issue with jeans and such. They would get a little warm by being close, but even if they brushed up against the pipe briefly, there was no problem. With rayon slacks, though, just blowing past the pipe in the breeze and they would get melt marks. Ruined two of my best pair of slacks that way.

I kind of simplified the install of the stock heat shield using 2 metric extruded "U" nuts, 2 0f the stock screwsand 2 hose clamps. Worked great and I left them on the header for Doitinthewoods. Now that he is family ask for pics.
