Engine oil sight glass... cracked
So I went for a ride with my brother Sunday... somehow a rock snuck up between the brake lever and cracked the oil sight glass.
Looks like it pushes in from outside?

Yeah, it should be removable. I see that the replacement part is available and about $15 You may need to get to the backside of the glass to get it out so the r/h cover may need to come off.
Ok-looks like these things fit like a freeze plug so once you have been able to pry/remove the old shell I would put the new part in the freezer to shrink it and be very easy in tapping this thing in -place-they like to break.

I'm amazed a rock could sneak up in there...lol We did hit several sections of gravel road that had the perfect size stones.

Yeah it is unusual. I've always been surprised it doesn't happen more often on off road machines that have oil sight glasses like this. Even working at a motorcycle shop as a mechanic part time for 15 years, I think I can recall seeing only one come in. Apparently it's tucked away better than we think...LOL.

Done.... turns out it is a very simple fix, press fit, but there is a rubber ring of some sort around the outside. Just dig out the old one with a small screwdriver, pop the new one in the freezer for a few, coat it with fresh oil, press it in..... It slipped in easily with firm finger pressure.
None of my local dealers had one (3 different shops) but I got one shipped for about $17 total.
Part No. Kawasaki 52005-1009
PS: Don't think I won't be checking every ride for the next 5000 miles or so.....lol
