I am by no means a chain expert, but this link had a ton of stuff about chains in general:

i've added links before on my kdx and on my son's xr250. i never had a problem doing it. it's not the safest thing to do but your stuck now so unless you want to buy another chain it's your only option.
You can use another master link along with other links. It's not the best set-up, but not really a big deal.
An o-ring chain contains seals that hold grease in the rollers. A chain is esesntially a series of steel bushings which spin around the steel pin that holds the links together. A non-o-ring chain needs more frequent lubrication since the lubrication is not held in the rollers. They are lighter, and have less friction when they are properly lubed. They don't last as long. O-ring chains are more expensive, butlast longer, and require less maintenance (lube is only to prevent rust and lubricate the surface of the sprockets.)
I accidentally ordered a nono-ring chain when I went +3 on hte rear. It's worked fine so far, but I don't put a lot of miles on the bike. I'll go bakc to an o-ring next year when this one wears out.
