The general consesus seems to be that it is better to have the chain at the loose end of the spec.
Sprocket:
One tooth on the front equals three on the back. I agree with changing just the front to start.

i started with +1 front (you can use the original chain)....but, when i needed new rear sprocket and new chain, i went +1 rear with a +2 link chain....
just to make it clear, IIRC you have the sf model, which comes stock with a smaller rear sprocket than the s model. Is that right? So, in the end did you wind up with 15/40 sprockets? Where the s model comes stock with 14/42 sprockets.
