Here is a link to some cool information about Synthetic oil. I know for sure I'll use it once My "easy Break in " is done.

[:@]Unfortunately the problem is the filter... the cheap paper element inside the canister only has a 4000 mile lifespan...next thing you know, the guts deteriorate, all the little particles and crap hit the oil pump in 1 blast and spreads thru the whole motor in a matter of seconds. Oops!!!
NOW: everything goes wrong at once, and yoursctatching your head wondering if it was the synthetic oil?No, it's the non-synthetic filter element failing, from neglect.

In the owners manual in new bikes ('06 and up) the maintainence schedule is saying filter every 4k and oil every 8k. which is fine. The oil companies are doing great things with convential oils to make them last longer.

Think you have it backwards there bud, oil every 4 and filter every 8.
I guess you could do the filter without the oil, suspend the bike fronthefront wheel then you can get the filter out without losing all the oil

I know people with 1/2 million miles on cars doing 25k synthetic oil changes. The trick is to change the filters a few times inbetween oil changes. My KLX only takes 1.5 US Quarts so every 2500 miles or so I'll just do a full Synthetic oil & filter change. I've heard that when they start to shift a little rough, It's time to change the oil. Don't be penny wise and dollar foolish

oil level on sport bike is "lower" than filter. you can change it and only loose what's in the filter.

or you could just change full synthetic and filter both every 5k which is what i do (on cars)

i'm still not convinced full synthetic isn't harmful to the clutches in sportbikes because i've found arguments for both sides.

So true. I still like draining through a filter(coffee filter lets say)into aclean container, change the oil filter, replace the oil. Add if needed.

edit: clarification

Filter above the oil level or not, my manual says and I thank all three of them say 4k for oil and 8k for the filter.
