Newbie to Motorcyclin
Hey, I just joined the forum and was wonderin if ya'll could help me with the little maintenance things that everyone seems to know but me. lol. I have a kawi 250 '05 and I just cleaned the chain in the time period as specified by the owner's manual every 400 miles, but I think I made a bit of a mistake. I used a biodegradable degreaser (Simple Green) which worked fantastic at cleanin it, but then used my water hose to spray the loosened gunk off. I now have surface rust and am left to rub it off with a soft cloth.
My questions: Is there an easier way to do this process?
can I just spray chain wax onto the surface rust and let friction rub it away?
does the water do damage to the engine sprocket or transmission?
k. I think thats all I have for now. I greatly appreciate any responses!

WD-40. Put bike on center stand or paddock stand. Spray chain with WD-40. Wipe off with clean rag.
Dry off with another clean rag. Let dry for awhile if you can. After giving it time to dry, take it for a ride to
warm up chain. Put back on stand and lube away. Don't go crazy spraying it on. You can get too much.
Let lube dry for about an hour and then go riding. I do it this way about once a month. Other times I just
soak a rag with WD-40 and wipe chain down.
Water isn't going to hurt anything. I guess you've never been caught in the rain yet.

You can get water on your chain. Do not use a pressure washer on it though! I do the same thing as KevyzToy. I use ChainWax though, it is a bit cleaner.
Welcome to the forums and congrats on the bike!

Kerosene will clean your chain the best. It will evaporate totaly and not leave a residue on the chain like WD. I do use WD as well but afterwards use simple green to remove the WD before putting on the lube. I use chain wax as well less fling for sure.
