Hi,my name is Shawn.I'm 32 years old and just bought my first bike last season.It is a 89 ninja 600R.Yes,it is a dinosaur,but so amI.I thought my first bike should be moderately old.Just to make sure I would like riding.I was hooked after 3 min.It's old but it still runs very well,up until a few days ago.My problem is when the bike is first started it runs like a champ for the first 30 min. or so.But when it warms up,it just dies.I stalled on the highway the other day.It always happens when I'm in top gear.I'm giving it gas but it just stalls out,like I'm out of gas.Then I can pull over for 10-15 min.and go again for a couple miles,over and over,till I make it home.I did run out of gas last week.Tried some fuel cleaner in it to clean it out,but no fix.This is driving me crazy.Any info. or input would be greatly appreciated.Thanks in advance. You might want to check your coils. they could be breaking down. Also check to make sure your gas tank is venting. GOOD LUCK...

 

Welcome to the forum, ghengis! Yeah I wouldn't be able to help u too much on that little problem you got there. New rider myself. I wouldn't call your self old...your only as old as you make yourself! Me...I'll never be old! You've got to start somewhere...I'm sure eventually you love riding so much that you'll go out and get you a new bike...once you've rode for a while...Anyway.......welcome to the forum!

Thanx for thw welcome.I took my gas tank off and found the petcock leaking gas badly.I replaced that and am hoping that was causing vapor lock.Can a little gas drip cause my bike to shut down?I hope that was it.How would I go about checking my coils.I am in no way an experienced mechanic.I'm learning as I go.Thanx so much for your info.It is greatly appreciated.
