Default Newbie with a ZX-6

Bought a 2001 ZX-6 on Saturday. It's Pearl Purplish Black Mica. I'll post pics when I get a chance. (At work now, just looking for some trouble-shooting info on the bike in the tech forum). I'm 24 and this is my first bike . . . Ask any questions you want.

welcome to the forums !!

congrats on the bike

I would just like to add a few things.. my first bike is my current bike 02 zx6r.
Be care full.. just cause its a 600 don't mean that the bike doesn't' have a good snap to it. It Will snap you off just as fast as a zx10r. I went down at 35mph in the first few weeks of riding. I was wearing helmet teeshirt and jeans. [:'(] My forearms lower back and shoulder blades were all rashed and my helmet had a nice rash on it too. The bike was rashed pretty well too. the bottom of the fork had a small scuff on it, same with the front rim, front fearing, side fairing, and the tail, were all rashed. The insurance com. quoted the damage to $2,300 for repair. The next day I was at the kawi dealer getting a new shifter, and clutch lever, a Joe Rocket jacket, and gloves. I have worn them every time I ride yes even when its hot 100+
haven't gone down since.. but better safe than sorry. I have seen a few crashes with and with out gear.. and gear pays !!
respect the bike, and learn it before you push your capability's

and enjoy your new bike I know I do

I'm definitely a big proponent of gear. I have a Motoboss (Frank Thomas) jacket, Frank Thomas gloves (getting new Joe Rocket ones soon), and an HJC CL-14 Amazon helmet. Getting the Icon Kitty Jacket and maybe the chaps. I'm looking for a pair of pants with a little more protection, since I have a bad habit of tipping the bike over upon stopping . . . My knees are beat to hell, lol. But then I could always just get the knee braces . . . and sell them off when I get over my bad habit.

Welcome. I have a friend that wanted to Icon Kitty gear. Even the chaps

As onewheel said, be careful starting out on the ZX-6. Very fast bikes. But get lots of practice in. Also an MSF course would help you tons.

Have fun, its a great sport.[sm=shades.gif]

Already took the MSF course and passed the DMV portion on my first try. Got my full endorsement two weeks ago. Now if I could just get the bike fixed . . . I'd be riding.

Actually, the 636 is a little much for a newbie. The ZX-6 that Violet Vixen has is a little better. I started on a 100cc dual sport. I dropped it a few times then crashed in a corner. Total cost was 10.00 for levers. Just respect the throttle and dont get too cocky. You should be ok.

Yeah.....I didn't want to be like the rest. Had to come out with a bang...I guess I should say this is my first motorcycle, I've been riding dirt bikes (125) for about 6 mo or so now. But never been on the street with a bike, so I guess that's different, huh?
