Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remember what gear your in. I have a hard time with that.

 

In time you will know by the sound of your engine, or by the rpm's showing on the tach. I know by the sound of the motor.

A good method I used to use is just count as you shift

 

Yup count and shift while listening to the engine as you do this.

 

If you want ,get a digital gear indicator. I installed one on my bike .Make sure you get the plug n play ,this way there is no cutting or splicing of the factory harness. It took me about 15 minutes to install and program. It's pretty much a sure thing . It tells you exactly what gear you are in. Looking down at gear indicators... necessary? New riders might thing so for sure, but I think anyone with a fair amount of riding experience will tell you - it really doesn't matter what gear you are in or if you know what gear you are in. Listen to your engine... you will know what gear it is in, and if it is in the right gear or not just by the sound and the response it gives you in any certain riding condition. Take the time to learn your bike... before long you won't have to look at the speedo or the gear indicator. $.02.

I rarely (if ever) pay any attention to the gear I'm in. It really doesn't matter since a motorcycle uses a sequential gear box. (meaning you can only go to the next highest or lowest gear per shift.)
