That's tough on the families of both guys.

Given that the rider had lights and sirens and was presmubly positioned properly, and given that the car driver was a friend of yours and I'm guessing, both bike aware and not an idiot, what were the other circumstances that led to this accident?

Road and traffic conditions, sight lines, the speed of the bike on an emergency call - or did one of them just make a tragic error? There have been a few accidents where the bike was just going so fast that the car wouldn't have time to see it and abort his pulling out. This happens especially to squids and to police answering emergency calls, for obviously different reasons.

Not pointing the finger at either party, btw. Let the accident investigators ort out what happenned and lets see what we can all learn from this tragedy

I feel for both families, and especially for the car driver who has to live with the consequences.

Thanks Rob, The cause appears to be several things added together. Terry was coming around a real mild bend in the road and had faded slightly to the left to go around a vehicle that had stopped for him. The vehicle that stopped did so at the entrance to a restaurant where the truck was about to exit from. The driver of the truck apparently thought the car had stopped to allow him to pull out so they couls pull in. He never saw the bike when he punched it to cross the road. When he did he was struck in the drivers door by Terry. The car and the signage on the road caused an obstruction that may have kept my friend from seeing the bike coming. And of course the windows were up so he couldn't hear the siren. Bad situation no matter what. Thanks for your concern though. We buried Terry today and about 1000 showed up fo the funeral.
