I notice that my engine ticks a little when its do for an oil change, could be the valve also could be the timing chain, are you still running the factory adjuster or have you switched to an APE manual adjuster? The factory could possibly be at its max adjustment and not keeping enough tension on the chain, the APE might simply need readjusted.

I too noticed the same sound. Honestly though mine is only at idle after a cold startup. I pin pointed the area to be near my clutch. I know open clutches make a noticably loud tick. Just a suggestion but its an easy place to start. My 98 ZX9R has under 6k so i definetly dont need a clutch but maybe you do?
Hope I helped some1!

Interesting statement The mechanic checked the specs and they all were within spec I assume? And no "shimming"/adjustments were needed?

10w-40 oil is recommended.
pg 5-12 engine top end for the CCT
see also oil pressure relief valve check pg 7-9
Also look on page 17-4 in your 9r manual which may assist with the clutch noise possibility

Yea he said they were all good but he made sure anyway cuz i told him to he said you usually wont really need it till closer to 20,000 mi. i do have a complaint about the service though i had him change all the fluids and my radiator catch bottle looks worse than before. he didnt clean the window in the bottlewhen he did it which i wish he woulda but i understand but now it does look dirtier than before mabe i will do it again myself its leaving a crusty looking film over the catch bottle window
