Default RE: 2000 ZX9R TICKING SOUND

the deuce R is a noisy bike, too!! my boy had a 95.. i was always doing something to it..lol

you probably DO just need a shim job..if theres over 20K miles on her, i'd be inclined to tear into the headwith some feeler gauges just to make sure tho.. could be a few things if they're in spec, however, you could be hearing cam chain slap, or a VERY VERY drastic condition of the #2conrod bearing failing. the bikes had a problem from the factory with poor #2/#3 piston bearing lubrication. this was primariy on the 94-97 models, but i think there may have been some other affected as well.. i just did an hour's worth of combing the archievs for ya, and found little on it. but I KNOW it was a problem..

is it a light tapping sound, or a deep, nasty *** sound?

the clutch should start to go around 16 k, typically..
i think some models were blowing up second gear.. i know the 12-R was doing it for a while, but it was hit-or-miss.. especially with back-cutting the gears for drag racing.. some guys fragged trannies, some didn't.. lol

i'll continue to comb thy holy archeives for vast measures of viable info for you, young KFer. well.. when itsnot 5am and my eyes don't feel like lead..[8D]

and welcome to KF!!!!!!!!
