If the profile isn't even change the tire. Mileage doesn't matter, it's more the condition of the individual tire. If you suspect the tire is bad change it. You will subconsciously try to correct for it, and only bad things can happen.

That and if you get close to the raised wear marks in the groove of the tires. My front wears fairly evenly even though the rearmostly wears in the center.

Usually you can go 2 for 1. 2 rear to 1 front. But I always change in pairs. I think the bike handles better with 2 evenly worn tires.

+1 to that, besides, the heat cycles on the compound for that given tire should also be the same. ie, more heat cycles on the front than the rear could cause a push in turns while the rear is fresh and is grabbing better.
