05 636 OR 01 ERION 929
GO GREEN or Get Left behind! The mildly modified (Pipe, K&N & ECU Modded) 636 can hang with the 929 in the straightsand will leave it in the twisties. I'm not just saying that; I rodemy friends01 929 a lotbefore I bought my 03 636 and even the 03 636 is a better bike than the 929. The Honda is heavy & slow steering and not that much faster. The 05-06 636 are very quick & fast especially with the mods mentioned above.
Speed has spoken so it must be done!!! KAWI's RULE!!! Too bad it's not the fastest Kawi color which is blue[&:]
In all seriousness I used to have an older bike and when I bought a new 636 it was like comparing apples and oranges...

My experience with a 2000 Fireblade 929 (2 years) and a week or so in my new mount (2006 ZX6 636) somewhat allows me to provide an initial opinion. Torque is top on the Fireblade, andit is nimble enough for an open class bike (really well engineered at the time), and yes, it weighs just 12 Lbs more than the Ninja, with lotsmore power! On the other hand, the Ninja'sframe design advances, revvy engine and overall dimensions makes it a better choice for curvy street riding plus it has newer technology engineering than the Fireblade. Unless you really need to compete all outwith open classers (on curvy roads the Fireblade is specially fast), the Ninja would be my choice. The only drawbacks would be ergonomics, as the Fireblade is lots more confortable than the Ninja, and top speed. Just my two cents ... Good luck!
Are you positive the Fireblade is only 12 lbs heavier than an 05-06 636????!!! Usually Honda's were Pigs as far as weight goes. Especially back in 2000. Kawasaki rated the 03 636 at 352 lbs but that was very optimistic and bone dry; No Fluids at all. No motor oil, shock & fork oil, brake fluid, fuel etc. They probably summed up the weights of all the parts only.
WOW! You're right!! Man that is amazing! So much for newer technology. That was 5 plus years ago and the Fireblade has almost 300 more CC's! I guess it's all about the suspension & handling and how the weight is distributed. Like the new 07-08 ZX6Rs. Less power but better handling, suspension & brakes for harder and faster corner entries & speed.
Here's some weight info from the same source: http://www.sportrider.com/tech/146_w...nts/index.html

2003-2004 was the year of the lightest 600ccsportbikes made (03 R6 at415 lbs & 03/04 ZX6R at 418 lbs). The ZX6RR's were 5 lbs heavier at 423 lbsbecause of the slipper clutch. After that the weights increased on all sportbikes mostly because of the catalytic converters & underseat exhausts.
1999 sv650!
I can't remember what the stock weight was but after i pulled all the garbage off the bike + put on a full system exhaust prior to racing it was at 360lbs.
I eventually got it down to 350.

Yeah, you can shed a lot of weight by replacing the stock exhaust, turn signals, rear fender etc. I bet my bike is under 400 lbs now. I'll have to take it to the scales one of these days.
i agree with fask on the gear down. i rode an 05 636 with a huge sprocket on the back, and that thing had more torque than i could handle. serious wheelie whip.
the o5-6 636 does have some amazing brakes and a slipper clutch to boot. damn they feel light... yesterday i rolled into the gas station on dead empty, when i went to lean it off the stand it felt like a slug. gas feel HEAVY on a bike that light.
plus, every honda i've ever ridden (haven't ridden any 929s) felt like it had a slosh box tranny. kawis always seem to shift like a dream. my old 83 gpz 550 was the smoothest shifting bike i've ever ridden!
