RE: 05 636 vs 04 636
$6k is way too much for a downed 04. I doubt that mileage is even correct...
Here is a quote from motorcyle-usa.com about changes for 2005:
I think the underseat exhaust is a huge change and I have read elsewhere that they upped the peak power and midrange while lowering the coeffiecient of drag, so in theroy it's a faster bike than the 2004's.
Here is the article, there were more changes made to the engine also, like a new head and pistons.

P.S. You can buy my 05 with 3600 miles for $6000. I want a ZX-14!

The big changes for the 2005 Kawasaki ZX-6R and ZX-6RR is the addition of an under seat exhaust, black frame and GP-style swingarm. Combine those changes with new aerodynamic body work and the ZX-6s seem ready to take over the top spot in the battle for 600-class supremacy.

RE: 05 636 vs 04 636
+1 on 6k being way to much. i have a friend here who just bought one that has been donw once for 4k, that was after new paint new exhaust and a new cage.
the main difference is the style i think, the 03-04 is more of the "raw" starting point for these incredible bikes. the 05-06 is the "refined" smoother bike. both are comperable on power and cornering.
basically just the look of the bike and weather or not you want the undertail

+1 for the 05. It's a good deal. It's already broken in.The undertail exhaust is way cool. I still get comments. Got my 05 636 with 3447 miles for 5g's. it has a few scratches from the owner from when it fell over but you can't really tell.

RE: 05 636 vs 04 636
well i picked my 04 zx 636 for 3,400 and it had a quarter size dent int he tank and the right side fairing was scratched, in all i spent 30.00 to fix both parts and painted all back together to match the original silver paint, bike came with a pc111 usb, k&n filter, yoshi high mount exhaust, fender eleminator kit, flush mount front and rear turn signals, lowered and geared when i bought it, and the bike only had 10,800 miles on it, but i did have to replace the rear tire but i already had a new 1 before i even bought it, bike needs nothin and is very fast

RE: 05 636 vs 04 636
The 05 had a Slipper Clutch, dual stagefuel injectors, bigger valves, Oval intake ports, 03-04 Race kit cams (more power & speed), underseat exhaust, lighter wheels, bigger rotorsand better radialfrontbrake master cylinder, more aerodynamic bodywork, braced swingarm &better suspension are among the changes/ improvements. The 05 is definitely the better choice.
