Default tank slap?

I've had an 06 650r since april 06, however, I ate the road with it in August and it has been sitting in the shop since, waiting on me to get all the replacement parts ordered, paid for, etc. FINALLY got it all back together today! Tank slap is what caused the crash. I was on the road in front of my house, doing a sedate 40mph, cost mearound $1800 to repair, and I did all the work myself except the new fork insert. Anyway, does anyone know of a steering dampener/stabilizer for these?

What were you doing when it happened? You need to check with Blue Ridge Performance or Ninja650Shop.com and see if either one can help you out. that must of been alot of damage to the bike, did you buy everything from the dealer? Just check with either web site, both are good and should be able to help you.

There should be some steering dampers out for the bike by now. Just look on the web. Check out speedwerks, kneeddraggers, and the 650rshop. they migh have what your looking for.

There is a European steering damper, but it cost a fortune. Gary from blue ridge performance is working on a damper, but he has not had time to finish it just yet. Once Gary finishes the one he is working on it is supposed to run around $130 which is not too bad compared to the $700 for the one that is out for our bike in Europe right now.

Just driving, hit a repaired area on a small rise in the road, I've driven this road a thousand times, guess I just happened to hit it just right! Anyway, lost all the fairings( replaced with cheetah), windscreen, all foot pegs and the sidethingsthe foot pegs mount on,left mirror, handlebars, left fork bent [put new kit in ($250)] The only piece that wasn't totally screwed was the front fender. I had to have the tank repaired, the bars put a nice dent in that. My friend saw the whole thing, (I got knocked out) said my bike went end for end before it went thru the barb wire fence. I guess I'm just lucky the frame wasn't bent, and that all I got out of it was a nice case of road and grass rash down my left side. I am definitely taking it easy until I get a dampener.

I forgot the back tire, I had just bought a new one and had a mesquite limb bury itself in the sidewall as close to the tire bead as you can get without being in the bead. Now way was I gonna chance that tire doing a freeway ride in DFW!

Ouch, glad that things are still good for you and the ride.

Was the suspension dialed in?(with the new rubber?) If not, do that first before you get a damper. My .002
