Palomar ..omg.. first time
wow, what can I say.. This is my second twisty-riding and the only other place I've been to is Ortega.. and Ortega doesnt come close.
Anyway, I'm so glad I decided to go early in the morning (got there at 7-ish) because other riders started appearing right when I was leaving (around 9:30). Also, there was barely any traffic, which is good because I made mistakes in which resulted me ending up in the other lane about 5 times overall.. LOL wow! Especially the first trip up, I was distracted by the beauty and the enveloping smell of nature.
some pics.. I need to bring a camera next time.
Information center..
one of the turnouts.
When I rode Ortega, my rear had 1/2 inch white spot from the edge (from not being used).. but this time the rears were almost all black. I got pretty scared when I had my butt out and the feelers still scraped.

and the front.. you cant really tell in this pic but the rubbers are pretty decimated, methinks these bridgestones need replacing asap.

arrgghh! I still cant get over those turns. Could only take them 30~50 and I wasnt sure which gear to use.. 2,3,4?? I did so badly compared to the other riders I saw. Had to start using butt control, sliding off left and right (LOL) to get smoother turns. My legs were killing me by the time I went home (didnt expect to use them).
On the way home, I got a kick out of letting my legs stretch with feet pointed at the rear while doing freeway speeds. Reminded me a bit of skydiving.
bah! looks like Itll be awhile before considering a bigger bike. I dont see how I would have performed better with a bigger bike today.

Glad you had fun and didn't crash. (I've crashed twice there and one was pretty bad.)
Palomar is about a 35 minute ride from my home in Carlsbad. Next time you're heading that way, drop me an email and I'll show you some fun roads on the way there. Banner Grade, Lilac, West Lilac, Montzuma Grade, Mesa Grande, Engineer Road, Highland Valley Road, Cuyamaca Lake, Sunrise Highway, Tecate... there are so many.
And you really don't need a bigger bike to haul-@$$ on a tight road like Palomar. I regularly pass R1's, 998's, CBR1K's etc. on that road with my 500, and sometimes with my dog aboard.
