I don't think you can really compare the smoothness of an '08 engine to that of an '07. Aren't they completely different engines?
I ran conventional and syn in my 94 and it made no difference in vibration. It only served to make my brand new clutch into an on/off switch. But I do have 2 quarts of Mobil1 Racing waiting for my next OCI. I'm actually a big fan of syn oil but have been running conventional during break-in.
Thanks for the sprocket info. Don't you have to buy a shorter chain when you put on a smaller rear sprocket? I was hoping to avoid that extra expense considering the bike only has 800 miles on it. I was under the impression that the factory chain could be used with a larger front sprocket, but I haven't confirmed that yet.

I was wondering the same thing when I noticed that yours was a 07. I'm still pretty sure it will run a bit smoother in the high RPMs.
I didnt have to change my chain on my 08 when I changed sprockets, in fact, I still have plenty of room left. I am just a bit further back than the center point of the adjuster. Im pretty sure putting a bigger sprocket on the back (ie 47 tooth) would cause problems. the factory set up seems to have the adjuster pretty far forward to begin with.

Two things that should help - swap your grips to the Pro Grip 719 or 724. If you are not wearing foam earplugs, give that a try as well. I hated earplugs at first, but after a couple of rides I won't ride without them. Even the best helmets benefit with their use. It sort of "calms" everything down a bit and relaxes you- give it an honest try. Besides, you'll be protecting your hearing, even though you might not think it is loud, wind noise is at a bad harmonic level for your eardrums.

I switched out the stockers for these, in red / black: http://portfolio.geografixx.net/ebay..._template.html
Vibration is a LITTLE better, but at 9K it still feels like I'm holding onto a supercharged sewing machine.
