For the cost of the oil filter and 2 quarts of 10W40 oil, and about 20 minutes of your time, why pay someone else to do it? It's not really that hard to do.

What type of oil are they using? For good synthetic on my bike the oil costs about $40. Add a good filter and the mechanic's rate and the price isn't too bad. I agree with you that it is always better to save the money and do it yourself though.

If you own a motorcycle, learn to do your own maintenance. Its that simple. (Unless you are super rich of course.) Everything I know, I had to teach myself. And if I can learn this stuff, anybody can![8D] I have yet to pay a motorcycle technician for work on any of the bikes I have owned. The work I have done myself, I have probably saved well over two grand by now.

Save the money and do it yourself. I agree with Mark. I dont pay anyone to do the work on my bike. Do the oil change, filter and save the $$$.

Service book = 20.00
Oil = 17.00 (2 qrts of Mobil 1 full syn)
Filter = 5.00

42 bucks compared to 80 plus you get it done with-in20 minutes? Thats the way to go.

This is too easy a job to have it done at a dealership, at that price. Bond with your bike and change the oil yourself.

Yep, and you might find something else that needs to be fixed or tightened....for instance, when I changed the oil on my new 2008 Ninja at 100+ miles, I found another bolt loose under the crankcase near the drain plug (between the drain plug and oil filter) that was loose and dripping my newly changed oil. Tightened, rechecked and no need for Loctite...it's OK now. Get a service manual for the bike and use it.....hell, it get's me away from the "honey, this and that needs be fixed, mowed, trimmed or whatever when I'm in the house and not in the garage....
