New member in Pa
Hi All,
Just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself. I live in Dover Pa and just picked up a 07 KLX250s with only 1000 miles on it. This thing is a time capsule, completely stock right down to the original tires on it. Needless to say, they are shot and are going to be replaced. I also want to open it up a bit by installing a bigger rear sprocket to make it more trail friendly as it will spend most of the time on the trails. I also want to put an FMF Q4 and rejet the carb to match it. I,m excited to get back out riding again as its been 4 years since I rode.
Take care,
Mike

Sounds like you're going to have fun. I will say KLXter has the carb stuff down pat, so contact him here for information there. There are some good mods and some plug in stuff, like the original Kiehin jetting work done in the past, but if you use Dyno Jet stuff he has it down pat. This forum is a great source for the KLX250 for sure.
If you start to hear rattle up around 4000-6000 rpm the cam chain tensioners are known for going south and it will need replaced. I do the manual ones that most riders go to. So be aware of what can be done. They aren't supposed to rattle in the cam drive in spite of what some may say. Owning three Kaws and all ending up with cam drive problems due to the tensioners I know a bit. They are what put me into the business of making the tensioners.

Hi klx678,
Yeah, I have heard that the timing chain tensioners were an issue with these bikes. A good friend of mine had one and replaced the tensioner a few times. I have seen the manual replacement ones I think once I get more miles/time on mine I will upgrade it. As of now the bike only has just over 1000 miles in it. It never saw dirt until I bought it back in November.
Thanks for all your great info, that's why I like groups like that.

Don't worry about the tensioner until it actually makes noise. It won't catastrophically fail, it will just start having an audible clicking/buzzing around 4000-6000 rpm. There is plenty of time/miles to take care of the problem.
