Default Brand new KLX300, and I already broke it

Hey guys! New member and new to Kawasaki, picked up a brand new klx300 a few weeks ago, I’ve had a bunch of dirt and street bikes over the years but never had a dual sport before so I’m super excited.

I’ve put 600ish miles on it so far and have been in love with it, but had a problem today.

Riding down the road like normal and went to down shift aaaand nothing, no downshift or upshift, clutch feels 100% normal, shift lever just doesn’t do anything. Went 20 miles home in 4th gear.

From what I’ve found in searches here and other places I’m assuming I broke a tooth on the shift star, but all threads I saw about this problem seemed to say it was a 2009 and earlier problem.

Any other ideas? Gonna take it to the dealer tomorrow morning since obviously it’s under warranty. Thanks!

I would say you should take it to a dealer since it is new. Let them figure it out.

It’s at the dealer currently, will post an update once it’s figured out

Update, bike is fixed, at no charge of course since it’s under warranty. They said “shift selector spring was installed incorrectly and not fully seated from the factory” they took it out, put it back in and test rode it. I put 150 miles on it today and all seems well
